You know that voice in your head that says that you don’t deserve what you’ve achieved? That voice that constantly makes you doubt your abilities and feel like a fraud?
Most people think that a sense of imposter syndrome is something to “fix”. Something to overcome. Something that will hopefully go away one day… forever.
The truth is that the moment you lose that feeling, it actually means you’ve outgrown your vision, and you are no longer seeking experiences that make you grow.
If you don’t have a sense of imposter syndrome, you’re probably not playing big enough.
Imposter syndrome is not a bug – it is feature of ambition. And that’s why it disproportionately affects high-achieving people.
Ultimately, stretching beyond the boundaries of your comfort zone and taking on new tasks go hand-in-hand with self-doubt. That’s a really important catch.
Most of us will experience this at some point in our lives. And many of us will feel it throughout our lives. As Seth Godin said, “I feel like an imposter often. That’s because my best work involves doing things I’ve never done before.”
It’s that initial struggle that triggers a sense of imposter syndrome – like you’re inadequate. But it’s actually a great thing, and here’s why: it opens the door to improvement. And progress is what breeds confidence… until you decide to challenge yourself again 🙂
Confidence doesn’t precede action. Confidence follows action.
My secret intention is for you to keep seeking out experiences where you feel like an imposter. That’s right. On purpose. Because that feeling is a mask for growth.
The way that I address imposter syndrome with my clients is to turn it into a feature. It’s something we shine a light on. It’s something I encourage you to use as fuel to take fearless action.
Now, consider this:
💡 How would your life be different if you were to see your sense of imposter syndrome as a clue that you’re on the right path?
